Role of the MidCentral Leadership Group

The MidCentral Leadership Group helps guide Enabling Good Lives in our region. It brings people together so local voices can shape decisions.

The group works in partnership with government agencies.

Why the group exists

  • Protect and promote the Enabling Good Lives vision, principles and values.
  • Make sure the priorities and experiences of disabled people, families, whānau and service providers are understood.
  • Help put Enabling Good Lives into practice in MidCentral.
  • Guide the team managing local system change.
  • Make sure the local system is accountable to our community.
  • Connect local and regional work with the National Enabling Good Lives Leadership Group.
  • Create an honourable, accessible and inclusive space where people can discuss important community issues.

What the group does

  • Helps develop, put in place and monitor Enabling Good Lives in MidCentral.
  • Oversees the MidCentral transformation and gives it direction.
  • Works in partnership with government agencies so their work supports Enabling Good Lives in MidCentral.
  • Shares clear information with disabled people, families, whānau and service providers.
  • Builds awareness and understanding of Enabling Good Lives in MidCentral.
  • Works with the National Enabling Good Lives Leadership Group.

What members do

  • Attend a Leadership Group meeting each month. Meetings are usually about four hours.
  • Read the meeting minutes and check that they are accurate.
  • Complete actions they agree to at meetings.
  • Attend Core Group or pre-meetings. These are usually one to two hours each month.
  • Host or help host open community forums, where more people can learn what is happening and share their views.

How members are chosen

Each community group decides how to choose its representatives. Representatives gather views before meetings and share information after meetings.

What members agree to

  • Learn about and support the Enabling Good Lives vision and principles.
  • Work cooperatively with other members.
  • Be involved in local community system change.
  • Be open to change.
